About the House

Spartina was built in 2008 by the Skidmore family, long time residents of the area.    Thomas Skidmore was a Brazilian history Professor at Brown University.  Mrs. Skidmore was an avid birder.   At one point, they owned homes on both sides of Atlantic Avenue.   In Spartina, they created an oceanside haven with wonderful views from every window — the North side looks out on Weekapaug Pond (a great spot for birding!) and the south side faces the Ocean.    We purchased Spartina in early 2021 after visiting Westerly for 25 years.   We've made improvements and modernized the furnishings.   There is a Solo stove firepit, a new bocce court, and an outdoor shower.   We provide beach chairs, towels, toys, and a beach cart to make transport a breeze.    Enjoy any number of  nearby beaches featuring New England’s best sand, sun and saltwater. Great base for biking, golfing, fishing, gatherings with friends or family fun.   We hope you love it here as much as we do!
